Is Your Pool Compliant? Quick Self-assessment Checklist

If you own a swimming pool in Melbourne, keeping it safe and compliant with Victorian regulations is essential. While only a VBA-registered inspector can issue a compliance certificate, a quick self-assessment can help you spot issues before booking your inspection.

Start by checking your pool barriers they should be at least 1.2m high with no gaps over 100mm. Next, ensure your pool gate self-closes and self-latches every time, with the latch positioned at least 1.5m above ground. Don’t forget the non-climbable zone—keep it free from trees, furniture, or objects that could be used to climb over.

Also review windows and doors leading into the pool area; windows should open no more than 100mm, and doors must comply with current safety standards. Finally, display a CPR sign that’s visible from the pool area.

A self-check gives you peace of mind and helps prepare for your official inspection, ensuring your pool is both safe and compliant.
